LITTLE RED STRING
The red string bracelet is made with high quality cotton that is charged through my protective blessing ritual. Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying the mantra (prayer), Om Mani Padme Hum (Hail the jewel in the lotus), invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig (the Bodhisattva of Compassion; or the embodiment of compassion). You can say the prayer silently to yourself or out loud whenever you are in need of protection, love and compassion.
What does the the red string represent?
The red string bracelet is most commonly associated with Kabbalah, however, this practice is an ancient one in religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Christianity. The reasons are shrouded in mythological mist in many countries, yet the reasons are quite similar, and represents the desire to ward off negative energies. Red has been a color used throughout history and is a symbol of blood, of protection. It has had a long standing tradition in human history for many different occasions. It is defined more so by attachments that culture puts on them. In ancient times, the color red was painted on front doors and animals as a form of protection against the evil eye (a gaze or stare that is superstitiously believed to cause material harm). Ancient warriors used to paint their weapon in red for the same reason before entering battle.
Background on the little red string
In Buddhism, the color red holds tremendous significance. It is a symbol that impacts one’s life and sustenance of the same. It takes care of the life force and compassion. Red also represents fearlessness, courage and bravery. It rules the tongue portion of the body. Wearing the red string is a reminder that one must show compassion to all. One must be mindful of the tongue, for the tongue can cut deeper than the sword. It can be worn on either wrists, however I generally wear it on my left wrist. Often, I will gift it to friends and loved ones in hopes of expressing love, wishes of good luck, and protection.
Generally the red string bracelets were worn by practitioners of four different faiths, Hinduism, Kabbalah, Buddhism and Christianity. It is often made of thin wool, some may have knots tied into them, and some include beads or ornaments like the evil eye or the OM as an added symbol of protection. During energy work (Reiki), this bracelet can become a talisman and charged with energies that protect the wearer. It is believed the left side of the body is the receiving side, so wearing it on your left side allows for the receiving of good fortunes and luck to come to us.
How to wear the red string bracelet
You will receive instructions that comes with the bracelet, as well as a mantra or prayer to recite.
Instructions:
- Have someone you love and trust tie the Red String to your left wrist.
- Make sure the string is tied comfortably around your wrist and tied with a simple knot.
- Repeat by knotting the string six more times for a total of seven knots. You can cut off the extra strings if it is too long.
- Make a promise to yourself that you will refrain from negative thoughts or toward others. This is harmful behavior and will interfere with your effort to gain personal fulfillment and protection.
- After all knots are tied, have the person read the prayer to prevent others from giving you the evil eye.
- No matter how it is worn, it is meant to be a reminder. It represents the strength of your faith, will help you maintain focus and healing.
When to get a new red string bracelet:
When the red string bracelet breaks or falls off, it is said that it has deflected all the negative and absorbed all the energies, and can no longer hold any more. It has done its job, so do not be concerned. If you should replace the red string bracelet and it falls off again after a few days, you should re-examine your energy and your behavior toward others. This is a good reason to replace the red string bracelet to keep you protected.
Some have worn the red string bracelets for up to 2 years. Some require a replacement after a few days or months. You can determine how often or if you need to replace it.
If the bracelet is too stretched, worn out, or you need to take off for any reason, you can do so. Before you cut off the string, please say “Thank You for your blessings and protection”. However, you may need to replace it with a new little red string in the future for a fresh beginning.
Color Variations & charms:
Some people have an adversity to the color red. It could be a color that is too powerful for your aura and may cause you to feel ill. However, there are different string bracelet colors that carry different meanings: red represents bravery; white is for friendship; black for sympathy; and yellow for faith.
